Bed Legs
Small Detail, Big DifferenceThe legs of a bed may seem incidental — but in truth, they are an Important detail. They determine stability, proportion, and even how you move around your bedroom in the dark. At Marshall & Stewart, we design and source bed legs with the same attention to craftsmanship as every other part of our beds.
Book a Sleep Consultation“The leg of a bed isn’t just decoration. It’s the point where all the craftsmanship above meets the floor below. Get it wrong, and the whole bed feels wrong.”
Our
Signature
Leg.
Every Marshall & Stewart bed comes as standard with our Victorian Turned Bun Foot — a design exclusive to us. Finished in a rich antique brown, it is elegant, proportioned, and unmistakably traditional.
The “bun foot” is more than aesthetic. At a height of 7 cm, it provides a crucial ergonomic gap between the bed and the floor.
“That seven-centimetre gap means when you walk past the bed at night, your toes slip underneath rather than smashing into solid timber. It’s a small thing — but it matters enormously in daily life.” — Brent Cooper

Variations & Options
While our default is the Victorian bun foot, we offer a wide selection of alternatives, sourced through Clockwork Components, one of the UK’s leading suppliers to the furniture industry:
Square Tapered Leg: Clean, modern lines in oak, mahogany, or painted finish.
Round Leg: Simple, contemporary form available in chrome, oak, mahogany or painted finish.
Custom Finishes: Natural oak, mahogany, painted white or black, or custom-painted to your specification.
Castors: For easy movement, available with or without brake mechanisms (vital for stability on wooden floors).
Materials
& craft
All wooden legs are crafted from solid hardwoods — typically beech or oak — ensuring strength and durability. Finishes are hand-applied, whether in traditional stains or painted lacquers, and each leg is checked for stability before leaving the workshop.
Design
& Proportion
Bed legs are not chosen in isolation. Their shape and finish are coordinated with your chosen headboard, your flooring, and the proportions of your bedroom. In interior design terms, the leg is a grounding element — small but significant, anchoring the look of the whole bed.
Practical
Engineering
Legs aren’t just aesthetic: they are part of the ergonomics of living with a bed.
Prevents painful toe-stubbing.
Maintains the correct mattress height for getting in and out of bed comfortably.
Distributes the weight of the bed system and sleeper evenly to the floor, ensuring stability.
The final word
A Marshall & Stewart bed is a complete system, right down to the ground it stands on. The legs may not be the first thing you notice — but once you live with them, you understand their importance.
“It’s these details that separate a great bed from an ordinary one. A bun foot, a brake castor, a simple seven-centimetre gap — they all add up to comfort, safety, and elegance.” — Brent Cooper
